Trashy Women in two places at once!
The Trashy Women take on the Dumpster Divas at the Elkton Art Center and simultaneously take over the Gates Gallery at West Nottingham Academy in Colora MD for an intensive installation mid March-April, 2009.
See one, see them all! There's never enough Trashy Women in the world! And speaking of which, we welcome Caryn Hetherston of Newark DE to the Trashy Women fold! We are honored to have such a fine sculptor /jeweler in our midst.
It's here, it's heavenly, it's hot off the press-- Read all about the Trashy Women in the newest issue of the Oxfordonian; a magazine published by the Oxford, PA's Chamber of Commerce---
I was honored to be asked to write about this warm-hearted and generous group --- in part to bring attention to the inventive and economical Trashy Women Workshops that will be offered (thanks to Richard Beards of the Bookplace and the Oxford Arts Alliance) starting February 2009 in the spacious Simon Building at 38 South Third Street as well as the TW exhibition planned for September 2009 in the same space...so peruse these pages and stay tuned for more!
Perryville, MD - --Now hear this, now hear this —the Trashy Women are cleaning up on both sides of the Susquehanna this summer! Oooh and ahh at what eight Divas of the Dumpster have done from June 28 through August 8 at Studio 432, 432 Aiken Avenue in Perryville MD (www.studio432.biz ) & at the Liriodendron Mansion in Bel Air MD August 24-October 5 (http://www.liriodendron.com/ )
Scrabble tiles, kitchen appliances, cement mixers, bangles and buttons…recycling takes a whole new direction when this gorgeous gaggle of garbage gals get a hold of it. Studio 432 hours are Wednesday through Sunday 11 am to 5 pm, and the opening reception is on Saturday June 28 from 3 to 9 pm. The Liriodendron is open on Sundays from1-4 pm and the opening reception is Sunday August 24th.

Sue Eyet makes mobiles, and balances stencils, shoe lasts and brass gears to hint at the equiilibrium we all seek in life.
Maggie Creshkoff finds faces in furniture, people in brightly colored tin cans and angels in the folds of rusty metal and fired clay
Jo Pinder recently retired from Eldreth Pottery and runs the Red Barn Co-op; for Trashy shows she loads up her brush with beeswax, crayon wrappers, bits of parchment and an infinite number of other items to infuse her paintings with a rare vision and sensibility.
Mindy Ward takes time out from her work of horror and suspense at Cemetary Dance Publication ( www.cemeterydance.com ) to transform buttons into bouquets and garage gleanings into fantastic flora, fauna and figures.
Donna Steck-McMahon is an art teacher and horsewoman who finds value in even the most broken of boards.
Caryn Hetherston is a fine jeweler who mixes fragments of glass, metal, broken trinkets and more into wearable sculptural statements, see more at http://www.carynlhetherstondesigns.com/
Trebs Thompson,pig farmer by day, is a self-taught mosaic and glass artist, specializing in the serendipitous to create one-of-a-kind pieces that incorporate faith, politics and lost love.
Jamie Troiani turns to needle and thread to make her visual poetry.
Dragonfly Leathrum utilizes skateboards to paint evocative portraits of man, woman and beast.
The Mission of the Trashy Women
1. We will find unexpected beauty in the discarded and the rejected;
2. We will share this with others, through teaching and through the exhibition of our own art;
3. We will encourage each member to develop her own artistic potential.
